Book Shelf Progress!

I am doing a VERY late Spring cleaning of book shelves.  I am doing my very best to better organize myself and my space.  And since I no longer have a shoppe, I can rearrange it to be my little private sewing/book nook. I am also working to get my cookbooks in my kitchen organized so I dont have to turn things upside down when I need one. They are by Regional outide the US,

Regional inside the US,  American TV personalities, miscellaneous, baking,

cookies and cake decorating,

Vintage, Louisiana Cuisine and holiday.

Then lifestyle, sewing and crafts other than soapmaking which has its own section, travel and novels to read.

That is about as far as I have gotten today…then there is this

big pile of crap I dont know what to do with.  For now I am putting in a box to go through later.   AND I have bathed two kittens this morning as well.  So I am needing a nap I think!

"Snappy"

Doesnt look too friendly does he?  I was out making my rounds this morning, doing a bit of walking and watering and there he was looking all grumpy. So I “snapped” a quick picture and left him be.  He is in fact an common snapping turtle.  I am  sure he came out of the pond behind our house.  Where he was going was anyone’s guess. Not a clear picture but for perspective:

I really thought he was a alligator snapping turtle(this pic is from Wikipedia)

due to the ridges on his tail…so cool looks like a dragon’s tail.

However his shell is smooth (and muddy as you can see) and apparently they too have spikes on their tails….so I suppose he is a common snapping turtle. Probably TMI for most of you but having homeschooled for 20+ years, every critter is a refresher course or a “WOW, I didnt know that!” moment.

What a surprise!

I got the greatest surprise yesterday.  You know, just when you think surely this man you have been with for 35 years couldnt possibly suprise you, he does!  I get an IM from him with a link to a website. I am going away for my birthday! Four days and 3 nights in a cabin by the lake.  You know I have admitted on here, in public, I am a total hotel snob.  But these cabins are very modern with all the amenities I expect PLUS a heart shaped jacuzzi for two! We can get away for a few days, just the two of us, and celebrate my birthday as well as our 31st anniversary, which he will be gone for.  Doesnt he have great ideas???

The cabins have a full kitchen and we will be doing our own cooking.  One reason being we cook better than most restaurants within driving distance.  And secondly, we genuinely enjoy cooking together.  We make quite the team in the kitchen.  All I have come up with so far is surf and turf (sans the surf for me).  I have to really think of what our favorite meals are and work on getting supplies together or making part ahead and freezing.  We can sit out on the covered porch and drink coffee every morning, take long walks, fish if we like, just hang out with each other…sounds lovely to me.  Very thoughtful of him.

I am not much of a camper so if you have suggestions, I am all ears!

Now a photo for you.  These are my little pumpkins peeking out – how exciting!
