Recipes of the Day: Fresh Peach Buttermilk Ice Cream and Mint Chocolate Ice Cream

We have one of those LOVELY Cuisinart Ice Cream machines. I bought us one for Christmas last year.  And here are two recipes I concocted tonight.  I am trying to get some things made ahead for mine and Husband’s little vacation in August.  Homemade ice cream was one of the things he asked for.  I want to make as much a head as I can.  Now to keep the kids out of it till then!

Fresh Peach Buttermilk Ice Cream

  • Two fresh ripe peaches peeled and diced tossed with the juice of one lemon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 1 small can peach nectar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Combine all but the peaches and stir until sugar is disolved.  Add peaches and freeze as you usually do.  Makes about a quart.

Mint Chocolate Ice Cream

  • 3 ounces of unsweetened chocolate melted in 1 cup half and half and cooled
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • two egg yolks beaten
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups Andes Mints chopped or mint chocolate chips

Heat the milk over a low flame until hot, pour into bowl containing egg yolks and whisk until smooth.  Add sugar and stir till dissolved.  Mix all ingredients but mints until well blended. Add mints or chips and process as you usually do.

I have to recommend getting yourself one of these Cuisinart things!

Crate and Barrel and Cuisinart and Linen and Things all have them for $50 right now…money well spent I tell you!

And find yourself some of these nifty little freezer boxes made by Ball.

I LOVE mine.  The lids are very flexy (yes that is a word) and they are freezer to microwave safe. The quart size is  PERFECT for a batch of ice cream made in the Cuisinart maker.

Tomorrow I think I will try to make Cherry Vanilla (I have some fresh cherries) and Strawberry Mascapone.  We won’t need all of it for the trip but it will be nice to have it on hand.  And our local grocery store had half and half on 5 for $5 this week so I stocked up.  I will post those recipes if I get them done.  We also are making my daughter in law red velvet cupcakes for her birthday and individual chicken pot pies for supper…recipes will be forthcoming.  As well as a few photos!

we were just talking yesterday about how we would like another ice cream maker….. we may just get one of these. That peach looks to good for words! I don’t think it would last around here that long!
Cherry vanilla is one of my favorites!

Yum yum! I tried to make vanilla once and it tasted like whip cream, I’m not sure I can handle this recipe,, but I’m willing to give it a try.

Strawberry Mascarpone sounds wonderful. Thanks for the tip on the little freezer boxes. I’ll have to pick some up.

I tried your peach ice cream recipe, but I didn’t have any peach nectar, so I used mango nectar instead. It was very yummy too!
